Praise – The book of Psalms

Praise

To praise (“Hallel” or “Hallal” in Hebrew) means to celebrate, praise, glorify, be madly enthusiastic. The word “alleluia” derives its origin from this term, and means: “Praise the Lord”.

The Greek word which, in the New Testament, corresponds to «Hallel», is «ainéo», which means: praise, celebrate.

To praise God is to recognize who He is, His qualities; to be grateful, to thank Him.

Why praise God? We must praise Him for His Greatness, for the wonders of His creation, and for so many other reasons. When we tell God all that we find wonderful in Him, we rejoice His heart, and our heart also overflows with joy, with a joy that He poured out in us by the Holy Spirit.

Praise is the expression of our love for God, which responds to God’s love. The apostle Paul, in Hebrews 13:15, tells us that it is a spiritual sacrifice, especially when everything goes wrong in our lives.

Hebrews 13:15 “15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name”.KJV

The book of Psalms

The Psalms are wonderful songs of praise. In Hebrew, the book of Psalms is simply called “Praise”. If you do not know what to say to the Lord to praise Him, read a Psalm and appropriate it.

Praise will prepare our hearts to worship the Lord and enter into His presence (Revelation 19:1-4).

Revelation 19:1-4 “1And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: 2For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. 3And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. 4And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.” KJV
