The anointing of God and healing – Man’s faith and healing – The difference between reality and truth

The anointing of God and healing

It is the anointing of God that breaks the yoke (Isaiah 10:27; Acts 10:38). This anointing (the fat of Isaiah 10:27) is needed to free people from disease.

Isaiah 10: 27 « 27And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. » KJV

Acts 10:38 « 38How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. » KJV

The Word of God is anointed, filled with the power of God to destroy all yoke including that of sickness and infirmities. And this anointing is released every time one acts according to the anointed Word of God.

According to 1 Corinthians 12:7-10, healing gifts and miracles are manifestations of the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 12:7-10 « 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues «  KJV

Nevertheless, one can be healed even when the gifts of the Spirit are not manifested, by faith in the Word of God alone. Healings and miracles can occur simply by teaching the Word and exercising faith of individuals for their own healing.

Jesus Christ Himself did not heal anyone until He was anointed with the Holy Spirit and power. Yet, He was as much the Son of God at twenty-five years old as He was at thirty when He began His earthly ministry. The Lord Jesus did not heal the sick by a power that was innate to Him, as the second Person of the Trinity. It was not until the Holy Spirit came down upon Him to anoint Him that the Lord Jesus Christ began to minister in the power of the Spirit.

Luke 4:1 « 1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness » KJV

Luke 4 : 14 « 14And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. » KJV

When He came into the world, Jesus stripped Himself of His power and glory.

Philippians 2: 5-8 « 5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. » KJV

Jesus healed the sick in the same way that any of us would do today: by the anointing of the Holy Spirit or the manifestation of healing gifts. He never exercised His ministry as the Son of God, but as a simple man anointed with the Holy Spirit.

If He had exercised His ministry on earth as the Son of God and not as a man, He would not have needed anointing! The Word of God clearly states that Jesus was anointed to fulfill His calling on earth (Luke 4:18).

Luke 4:18 «18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised » KJV

The strength that came out of Jesus in Mark 5:30 is translated, in the version of the King James Bible, by the word “power”. He was anointed with the power of healing.

Mark 5: 30 « 30And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? » KJV

Anointing is perceptible to the touch. When the woman with blood loss touched Jesus’ garment, He knew immediately that a power had come out of Him. The garment of the Lord was apparently saturated with the same power, or anointing, as He Himself.

It seems that some fabrics, such as linens, can soak up the healing power of God. And this healing power (or anointing) can then be transmitted, or transferred, from these tissues to the bodies of the sick. The healing anointing of the apostle Paul, for example, transformed from simple tissues to “accumulators” of the power of the Holy Spirit. And when they were laid upon the sick, they released the healing anointing which healed them of their diseases.

Anointing is also measurable. Elisha, for example, asked for a double portion of the anointing of Elijah

2 Kings 2:9 « 9And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. » KJV

This same river of healing – through the anointing, or power of the Holy Spirit – is still available today. But there are two conditions for healing: the level of healing power imparted by the one who prays; and the level of faith of the person receiving.

Man’s faith and healing

By faith one is healed.

James 5: 14-15 « 14Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. » KJV

One can pray by faith and receive his own healing; James tells us that we can also call the elders of the church to pray. Third, one can benefit from the ministry of someone whose anointing is tangible as was the anointing of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The faith of the woman healed from the loss of blood (Mark 5:27) came from what she heard about Jesus; for faith comes from what we hear (Romans 10:17).

Mark 5: 27 « 27When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. » KJV

Romans 10:17 « 17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. » KJV

When we too want to touch the Lord, we must approach Him by faith. It is because of her faith that this woman has taken her healing. It was the Lord’s will that she should be healed, but it is not He who initiated this healing but the woman.  This power of healing is always available and we can initiate healing ourselves, by faith.

Mark 6:1-7 shows us how unbelief can hinder healing. And what was Jesus’ answer to unbelief? It is written, in verse 6: He taught and then sent the Twelve.

People need to be taught to have faith, to be taught that it is the will of God that they should be healed.

Mark 6: 5-7 « 5And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. 6And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching. 7And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits »  KJV

Healing works by faith, in an atmosphere of faith.

In Mark 8:22-26, Jesus was at Bethsaida, His homeland, and He was going to heal a blind man there. For this, He took the man out of the village because in the village there was only unbelief. The Lord even had to do it twice to heal the blind man because unbelief had held back his healing. And what did Jesus do, after having healed him? He asked him not to go back to the village, not to return to this land of unbelief.

Mark 8: 22-26 « 22And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. 23And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. 24And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. 25After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. 26And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town. » KJV

In Luke 8:49-56, people were crying and mocking. Jesus brought with Him only three people who were solid in faith, besides the parents of the child.

Luke 8: 49-56 « 49While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. 50But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. 51And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. 52And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. 53And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. 54And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. 55And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. 56And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done. » KJV

The power of God must meet the faith of the person who wishes to manifest it. The mental acceptance of God’s healing power is not enough; we must develop a personal and active faith in God for our own healing.

Notice that Jesus never sent a person out “empty” because one lacked faith. People came to Him with varying degrees of faith and Jesus welcomed them all, always encouraging their faith, and He healed them.

Not having faith in one’s own faith, but in what Jesus says

Many are probing themselves to see if they have enough faith in themselves to perform a miracle. The question is not to have faith in one’s own faith, but in what Jesus says He is. For Jesus Christ is the only one who has fully satisfied the requirements of God, He paid the price and obtained the redemption of mankind, even becoming a curse for it.

He is also the one who has conquered death. His faith has been victorious. Let us come to Him with the faith we have and it is He who will produce the result.

The Bible says to us too, in :

Matthew 10:7-8 « 7And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. » KJV

It is simply not possible, considering that we have to do it ourselves. In reality, this is entirely the task of Jesus; it is He who takes charge of everything, working in us and through us.

It is Jesus, and not the faith of the sick, who heals; but Jesus needs our faith to act

What most prevents people from receiving their healing is that they are not convinced that it is the will of God to heal them. God is omnipotent and almighty, but He can only do what one person allows Him to do in his life.

Divine healing is appropriated by faith. It is a means of accessing the graces of God. And because it is about the graces of God, our performances have no importance. Healing is entirely based on the performance of Jesus Christ and the price He had to pay. For if healing depended on our performance, then Christ would have died in vain.

Our faith places us directly in the hands of the God who can do, through the power that works within us, infinitely beyond anything we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).

Ephesians 3:20 « 20Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us » KJV

The difference between reality and truth

There is a difference between the truth and the reality. While the facts – disease, etc. – are a reality in themselves, there is a much bigger one : the truth. People tend to keep their eyes on the facts. Sickness is the fact, but the truth is that Jesus Christ is The Healer.

When we complain about a problem and exalt it in some way, we are, without realizing it, prophesying negative words about our own lives. We must learn to fix our eyes on The Truth – Jesus Christ – because facts, circumstances change where The Truth remains unshakable.

Let us therefore fix our eyes on the One who said: “I am the way, the truth and the life” and let us remain in thanksgiving.

John 14: 6 « 6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. » KJV
